I'm considering Houston for job prospects. I realize its a large spread out city and intensely hot during the summer but I'm wondering are there areas to bike, jog etc. I'm looking for running trails or areas adjacent to any decent sized parks where I could go to exercise.

It makes more sense and is more charitable to build many nice, modest homes for people who need it than to build one insanely large, over the top home for one family each week.

One home built by the show in Houston had a catwalk/runway in it for it for the children. What a waste of space and the kids will lose interest quick.

i mtn bike several days a week through the trails in memorial park and there is also jack brooks park south of houston. You can also run through there if you are hardcore or run the 3 mile flat running loop on the other side of the park. Lots of road cycling around houston too, no need for a park. We also have some indoor options like soccer and rock climbing. And if you like classes, plenty of that as well. Cross fit is getting huge around here too with indoor and outdoor classes. There is definitely no shortage of outdoor or indoor activities around here.

Houston has many miles of bike trails all over the city. You only need to find a Bayou and you will find a nice bike trail (and Houston has tons of bayous).

The bike trails usually look like this:

There is probably over 300 miles of bike paths here.

Jogging and biking places won't be hard to find here

memorial park, rice loop are nice jogging. i dont do trail running so no clue. i hoof it around my neighborhood. you can jog anywhere. it is hot during the summer but i continue to run year around (although summers in the evenings/nights). as a non-native you have to ease into it but your body will adjust.

I personally love memorial park b/c you can jog, bike, swim, play tennis, softball, soccer, ultimate frisbee and golf there. Not to mention the many private fitness class, events, arboretum, picnic areas. It gets too crowded during certain hours, but the upside is I always feel safe there.

First off, Houston has NO geography what so ever; it's totally flat! Now that that is out of the way, to answer your question. Yes, Houston does have lots of areas to Bike, Jog, Etc. Memorial Park is great. You can google it and check it out on Google Maps. There is also a trail that runs from Highway 6 all the way to Memorial Park, about 30 miles round trip, which is fantastic. Also, there are good hiking trails like Armand Bayou and a few others I cannot think of right now. Good Luck!
