The one thing I did found surprising was that Washington D.C. was on the list. I thought D.C. was just full of government workers. Who knew you could get rich working for the government.

As of some years ago the average pay for federal workers moved higher than average pay for private workers due to both rising government wages and stagnant private wages.

I don't think somebody on a government salary is in the top 1% of wealth.

No, but the tens of thousands of people who Contract with the government can be. It only takes something like $300K a year to be "One Percent". Plenty of contractors and consultants make that with the government.

According to the article they are only counting people with a net worth of at least 30 million. 300k is way more than what I make, but I wouldn't consider myself wealthy or the 1% on a 300k salary. Also shouldn't San Jose be on this list, Silicon Valley is closer to San Jose than it is San Francisco.

I'm still trying to understand the mention of the Occupy movement in the article.
And whatever this paragraph is supposed to mean.
