I've seen all kinds of crazy stuff with foreclosures. But this new listing really caught my eye. It seems like they let a drywall-eating animal loose! Wow.

I've seen people clog up toilets and tubs and let the water run, spray painting the walls, stealing appliances, and more. But come on, do people really have to do this when they are losing their house. I can understand the anger, but this is ridiculous!

Looks to me like a bargain, anybody can fix drywall.
I'd just be concerned about them going back to finish their business

I agree with you, City Love. For a while in the 1980's, when I was unemployed, I cleaned foreclosed homes. I saw this kind of damage and much worse. I never understood why people take their frustrations out on the house. Is it anyone's fault but their own that they couldnt make the payments? (Yes, I understand job losses and medical bills, etc -- but, still...)

I work with nothing but distressed properties and unfortunately, I've seen much worse. The worst one, I could hardly walk in. It had two feet of trash throughout the entire floor, and they had left their dog in the backyard. The dog was no longer alive. That one stayed with me for a very, very long time.

I wish I hadn't read that. Leaving a dog alone to starve to death is so cruel.

City Love, I'm not in real estate so I don't understand how this works, but with all this damage, how can someone still want $82K for the house? I looked at all the pictures of the damage. The carpet that was damaged was actually burned down to the floor. That's sad. I guess they wanted to do as much damage as they could so that it would take a lot before it could be a home for anyone else.

See? That shows how little I know. Here I was thinking that's quite a lot for a home in that condition. Thanks.

Simple math. What would it cost to repair and what would be the market value once repaired. As stated, drywall is a relatively cheap repair. Carpet is a relatively cheap floor covering.

These photos seem to show extensive but easily repaired damage. You could have a house that appeared in much better shape in photos that actually needed much more expensive repairs like HVAC, plumbing, foundation, etc.

It is all about supply and demand as far as price. First remember a lot of people live in filth and trash anyways so a trashed out home is not surprising. Second, people do not want to take responsibility for themselves and it easier to get angry at the bank and trash the home then admit they bought a home they could not afford. Why leave a home in good condition for another family that needs a home?
