We are relocating to Houston in June. How far in advance do you look at renting a home? Can you set up something in March to start renting in June?

I assume if it's up for rent the lease is either 30 days or 60 days from expiry so March could be a little early. It may also depend on the area you're looking into, some of the more desirable areas are harder to get into than others, i.e. low rental inventory.

If you are looking to lease beginning June 1st. I'd recommend to start looking 45-60 days before. If you look too soon, most owners won't want to hold an empty property for you, even if you pay the deposit. If priced right, rentals tend to go in under 30 days.

I will be moving in July and have contacted a REA, she has been wonderful. HAR updates everyday and is a great resource. I've noticed that homes in my range and ideal location go quickly. In the last six weeks, every home that I liked was leased within two weeks of being listed. Be ready to move quickly and get an agent. Good luck

Katy ISD, west of Fry. My budget is $1300 for a 3/2/2 single family rental home that will allow a large dog. (English Mastiff)
