My family and I will be moving to Houston this May. We are open to a number of locations. Our ultimate goal is to keep my husband's commute time to Bellaire under 25mins. We will be renting and would like a 3 bedroom (preferably 4, 1,700sq ft. or more) for no more than $1,700 a month. Of course, we would like the area to be relativity safe but no need for a super suburban feel. We'll be in Houston next week, but we will only have a limited amount of time to actually drive the possible commutes. I would love some recommendations of specific areas.

I have found a few places north of Westpark and west of Sam Houston. MapQuest puts the drive time around 15mins. What would the approximate drive time be during rush hour?

Thanks

I commute from that area to Bellaire, and it's about 20 minutes in the morning and 25-30 minutes in the evening. About as good as you will do in Houston unless you live close enough to walk to work.

How about Westbury neighborhood just south of Bellaire.
You might find something there in your range and would have practically no commute.
On har I saw a 1900$ and 2200$ in Bellaire. a little above$1700 but you would save on gas.

Bellaire is one of the HARDEST places to get to in this city. I hate having to drive there at any point in the day. 610 in that area is a total clustef**k 24/7, and any side road you have to drive to get to it is not worth risking a car jacking.

I'm sorry for your drive. <tebowing for you> Live there or go home.

the side roads from West U., Uptown,Meyerland, and Westbury are risky?
The only bad area near by is Gulfton to the West and I go there at least once somtimes twice a week for tacos, and used to go on a nightly basis to drop off a coworker. Never had a problem with carjacking.

getting injured or killed in a freeway accident driving to the burbs is much more likely than being the victim of a carjacking in the worst neighborhood you can find.

I grew up in "THE GALLERIA AREA," before it was "Uptown." Bellaire, and the side roads getting to Bellaire are notoriously "not good." I tend not to be blind to the reality of urban areas. Nothing wrong with Bellaire, but it's much easier to live in it than commuting to it.

If you wanted to try from Sugar Land - Sugar Creek or maybe Sugar Lakes... My neighbors that work in Bellaire tell me from Telfair at 7a it takes 35-45 minutes. From sugar creek you can shave 10 minutes. At 630a it is 25mins according another neighbor that works at the Chevron office out there.
