Hi Everyone!

I'm moving to Houston and I'm from New York City. Today I was meeting with the realtor and as she was showing one of the houses in Houston I noticed several HUGE cockroaches in the house!! I'm a complete city-girl and barely see any roaches in New York City!!! I'm horrified of them to the point that I'd be too creeped out to even try and kill them!!!! The realtor said that there are roaches everywhere in Houston, is this true??! Are there roaches in the apartments?

They are everywhere in Southern US, not only in Houston.

They look ugly, but are harmless. BENGAL GOLD ROACH DRY SPRAY does great job!!

NYC has other kind of roaches: http://www.nytimes.com/1994/04/24/ny...ted=all&src=pm

We have guns in Texas, so fixing them cockroaches shouldn't be a problem. I Louisiana they just eat them :-)

There are 2 kinds of roaches here in Houston. the small infestation variety that are easy to exterminate if you keep a clean place.

and the big tree roaches which do not infest but occasionally find their way indoors. just use your vaccum cleaner hose, instead of squashing.

They're not cockroaches, they're "palmetto bugs." I've come to learn that "palmetto" is Latin for "huge-ass flying bug the size of a manhole cover."

Still, they weren't the main concern when I used to visit my grandma in Houston. It was the armies of red ants marching around looking for ankles to nibble.

Yes, roaches are everywhere. I have lived in the south all my life and I still get grossed out. :/

They are the most disgusting, nauseating, and generally horrifying insects known to exist. Their physical harmlessness is duly outweighed by the sheer psychological terror they inflict on humanity. I always dread late springs in Houston as they signify the official end of the hibernation period for these ghastly slithering incarnations of evil. A good barrier spray usually keeps them at bay, but even the rare chance encounter I might have with one is enough to send me into a state of perpetual shock and dismay for days.
