My daughter is going to be starting nursing school with UT Houston in the Medical Center. I went on Craigslist, and it seemed to be all brokers. How do you find a good apartment broker in Houston? Any other advice?

I've never dealt with a broker...actually, I did once before.

My I am cutting this too straight and narrow, but if said broker finds your daughter an apartment that works for her, what's the big deal?

Other than the broker I (and my brother) used some years back wanting to push us into an apartment right on Clear Creek (location = not ideal to my job and his school), I wasn't complaining.

it depends on the area. In general I would probably check HAR.com or the greensheet.

If it was around TMC I would drive around. Some places in Montrose, the Heights, etc don't even advertise because the units gets snapped up so quickly.

Depends on the type of apartment you are looking for. If you want a standard big complex, the apartment locators are fine. Nino & Assoc used to be pretty good, not sure if they are still around. If it is garage apartments & duplexes and such, then the greensheet or driving around looking for signs is about the only way to do it. Besides craigslist, there is HAR.com, as well as a couple of sites like apartments.com and that sort of thing.

Use an apartment locator, they're everywhere. And it doesn't cost you anything, they get paid by the apartments if you sign a lease. Also moveforfree.com is pretty good, Ive used them a couple of times.
