Would a commute from Sugar Land to UH Downtown OR UH Clear Lake be unrealistic or is it manageable?

Do you mean every day, rush hour, for work, or some days, off hours, for school?

Monday through Thursday, but can't give exact times of day yet (I'm not a student there yet)

What would it be like driving there from Sugar Land on Monday-Thursday, in the morning, at lunch time, and right after rush hour? (I will never drive in rush hour)

I can't speak for the Clear Lake trip, as I've never driven it on a weekday. As for downtown, it's workable. My advice would be to make efficient use of your time by arriving early and staying late. Plan on doing most of your studying on campus and minimizing the number of hours spent sitting in your car on hwy 59. I would also discourage any idea of going back home for lunch, as you'll pay much more for gas/maintenance than you would on lunch.

You'll have to change your mindset about going back and forth to class. Think of it more as commuting downtown for your job. Your job just pays lousy...for now.

Timing depends on your location in Sugar Land, too. Are you right near 59, or will you have to drive 20 minutes to get to the freeway?

All good input here. Well I don't live in sugar land yet, but I have looked at apartment complexes there for a while. I was curious if it would be realistic to live there and attend UH. Seems that it can definitely be done but just have to stay long hours

I wouldn't do it. Lived near League City and boyfriend at the time...now husband, lived in Sugar Land. It didn't matter the time of day - it took a minimum of an hour for either of us. Obviously more with traffic. Sometimes he would leave my home at 5:30 and wouldn't get to work in the Galleria until 7:30. So ya...

On another note...did you know about UH Sugarland or UHV. I take online courses through UHV and my entire degree program in online.

Lots of folks commute downtown from Sugar Land. How painful it is depends on the flexibility of your schedule.

Totally missed that OP said UH Downtown.

OP, that is far more doable than UHCL. But I personally would not want to be downtown at night. And before anyone starts to flame me, I grew up very close to downtown and I lived close by as an adult.

Downtown. Clear Lake would be a disaster and a headache. In fact, you'll still get caught in traffic going from DT to SugarLand...but its truly better.

-Thank you St. Expedite for your work on my behalf! I am forever grateful!
