Well, quite some time ago, I sat Houston down and had a firm fatherly discussion with it. It promised not to let ego and self-interest get in the way of becoming great. So, now, I'm proud to say; Houston you're doing fine. I'm proud of you.

All three of those venues have much more history than the Dome.
It is the first domed air conditioned stadium on the planet. So not only is it historical to Houston, it started the sports stadium building craze that swept the nation and still sweeps the nation today. In essence, the Astrodome kind of replaced itself. The Astrodome means alot especially to people who remember going there to watch the Oilers and Astros play.

I don't get your point,
I could make the exact same argument about 1000s of things in the city.

Well being it is deemed the 8th wonder of the world... plenty of reason for Houston to save it.

I agree Mikey, it's the FIRST building of it's kind IN THE WORLD. It's not just any old sports stadium. It's something Houston should take pride in and salvage it with an enduring project worthy of it's greatness. As a native Houstonian NO WAY I think this should be torn down. It's an Icon to this city, and should be an icon to the World should we make the right decisions on it's future use.

If Rome can preserve the Coliseum, and San Antonio can preserve the Alamo, then we can preserve the Astrodome Dammit!

New York - Empire State Building
Rome - Coliseum
Houston- Astrodome
SA - Alamo

The Dome doesn't need to be saved. You want to get historical, I'm sure Abe Lincoln's childhood home is still around. But, unlike the Dome, it doesn't cost $2,000,000 a year to sit around while rotting and I'm sure the state of Illinois makes a buck off of it with tourists. Anything that can be done in the Dome after renovations can be done somewhere else for cheaper.

The Alamo? It makes someone some money.

The ESB? Someone makes money in it.

The Dome? You wanna fork over $400 mil from your own pockets to shine it up, be our guest.

Nostalgia is a silly reason to get stuck with a bill like that. Buff Stadium got paved over for Finger Furniture. Giants Stadium still has Jimmy Hoffa buried under it. You get over it and move on.
