Is it a dumb idea to buy a convertible in Houston, due to the humidity and the 100+ degree weather? Are there nice roads to drive that would make it worthwhile? Specifically I was thinking of getting a Ford Mustang convertible -- a very common sight back in California but seems to be pretty rare out here.

Not too common. You see it sometimes during the nice spring and fall days but usually at that time flies and Mosquitos make you into a moving dart board.

i think it just depends on how tolerant you are to the heat and humidity. I see some people go around with the top open all the time others only when its nice. When i had my t top camaro i only took them off when it was nice out.

I do hate full convertables which is about the only thing you can get anymore. I think the maintenence on them to keep them up is way to high.

We shipped our darling convertible to Houston when we moved from Seattle - and promptly got rid of it shortly thereafter. Driving with the top down simply wasn't a pleasant experience here for the reasons you point out - hot weather and lack of pretty roads.

That's a shame. But it confirms what I'd suspected. Oh well.

Unfortunately there are about 10 weeks a year that a convertible is good to have here.

If you're looking for a pretty road, I'd suggest Memorial Drive. I love that road.

Top and doors off any chance I get, even in the summer.

I'd suggest they not. It's bumpy, full of potholes, traffic is bad, smog is bad and there's nothing to see.

I'd suggest they get out of Houston and go drive the Hill Country.

How about owning an Evo low on the ground with low profiles in Houston? Good idea or not?
