Some of the suburban districts I know of build all the schools the same (based on same models), without windows in the classrooms. I know it's for "safety" reasons, just wondering if anyone can offer some outlying districts (not HISD) that either build with windows or have predominantly older with windows? TIA!

SBISD has windows in both the new and old schools. Stratford HS is an exception, an exception the district learned from for its newer schools.

Cool. Do you know if that specifically applies to the other schools around Stratford (elem, JH)? We're interested in that area... but you can't tell from just driving past. Many schools have windows across the front, but once you get inside then you realize those aren't in the classrooms, just the cafeteria and/or the offices.

I havent been in the new MeadowOod or Wilchester Elem, but all the others do.Memorial, Spring Branch, Spring Forest Middle schools are still the 70s style school. All the other old elems are too. Frostwood is currently being rebuilt, so they are in windowless temporaries at Westchester HS, which has the most windows of all.

Im not familiar with the ones north of 10, other than they too are pre-windowless construction
Im familiar with all the halogens/fluorescents giving headaches

I thought Stratford was "redone"...........with added windows.

All I know is that I went to schools with windows...........gazed out of them........and saw EVERYTHING.....

May have, Ive never been in the school. I just remember that being the primary complaint, and people talked about how the kids loved the old WestcHester when they stayed there during the remodel.

I had a dear friend who went to Stratford when it opened. "WE" thought it was awful that it didn't have windows..............then we went to college.

Again, lots lost in not being able to gaze out a window.....or two...............

This is what I remember growing up in the '60s - '70s in Houston regarding windows in schools.............lots of them, courtyards, and "covered" walkways.

Then, the '70s happened..............somewhere in there........and there were no more windows.

I've lived other places............and have seen those same old "institutional" buildings................

There was some sort of Unfortunate "Mind Think" back then.

Meadow Wood pre-K through 1 do, I haven't been in the 2 - 5 class rooms. You can tour the schools, just call them up they'll be happy to accommodate.

How is it safer not to have windows? Please educate me. All I can think about is kids dying in a room with no windows in case of a fire.
