Looking to move to Katy from the city. I currently work off north mason and I-10 so I will be looking for something within 5-10 miles, preferably in a good school district. Rent rate cannot exceed $1400 per month. My boyfriend is from Katy and has said that the neighborhoods along South Mason north of Highland Knolls have gone downhill in the last few years (crime, etc.). I am looking for suggestions on what areas around South Mason are in my price range and more reputable as far as school district and safety? HAR seems to suggest that the farther south on mason you go, the more rent increases. Thanks in advance!

Have you contacted an Apartment Locator? They're free and totally worth it. Give them your specs, they find it, the owner pays them.

Ronnie- I am actually looking for a home to rent, not an apartment. I'm just trying to narrow my search. I haven't had much luck with realtors in the past as they seem to be concerned mostly with sales and not leases. Thank you!

Apartment Locators cover homes for lease as well. If it's on the market for lease, they know about it. They are not realtors.

You want to stay north of 1093 to be in the Katy ISD. You will see there is a huge difference in Mason road once you south into Cinco Ranch... $1400 for a house might be a stretch, but as others suggested, check on Houston Real estate, Houston homes, Houston Realtors: HAR.com

I understand what you mean about realtors wanting to concentrate on sales, but there are realtors that specialize in rentals as well... I would the leg work though and check out HAR or zillow so that you get a good idea... Zipcode is 77494 and MLS area is 36 (South Katy)

I just did a quick search and found 30 homes between $975 and $1500 in that area... I did $1500 because you can always negotiate

Good Luck!

Thanks all. I always turn to HAR. I guess what I'm looking for are specifics. For instance, I've been told to stay away from Cimmaron, West Memorial, etc. I'm looking for for specific NEIGHBORHOODS in and around N/S Mason to stay clear of or to opt for. I've got tons of search result, just trying to narrow it down to specific locale that isn't shady.Don't really need search suggestions, I've got that down. I'm just unfamiliar with which areas to pursue.

Default Here are the pics

Here is a link to photos of the property. It is a 2000 Sq Ft home Located near Kingsland and Peek. Also it is very close to the 99 Grand Parkway. I can rent it to you for $1400 a month. I have not even put it on HAR yet. This home is not off of Mason it is off of the Grand Parkway and is not in a neighborhood that is going downhill.
