My husband & I were just in Conroe last month. I highly recommend The Comfort Suites located at 18456 I-45 S., Shenandoah, TX, US which is near the Woodlands and a very short distance to Conroe. They offer a full complimentary breakfast every day and dinner on Tuesdays. The room ran about $90 per night with our AARP discount. Not a bad price when you figure in what the cost of going out for breakfast will run you. The rooms were very clean and the staff very nice & helpful. Since it is right off of I-45 there are plenty of restaurants & shopping nearby. I also recommend Enterprise for your rental car. We have made two trips to Conroe this year and we have rented a car from them both times. The first time we were offered an upgrade at no extra charge. I also found that they offer the best rates as well. The cars are all really clean and the service is great. The pick up & drop off is really quick & easy. I hope this helps.
