They must be moving to Austin. My job takes me from Winnie all the way to Sealy at times (and every where in between) and I hardly see the CA plates at all.

Also (which might make many native Texans happy) it has been my experience that Californians move back the first chance they get. As one of my ex-colleagues told me, "Orange County Republican is downright socialist compared to Texas Republican."

The cultural difference is quite big, apparently.

Ahh yes. Those OC Republicans. The same group that gave us Richard Nixon and let's not forget the biggest municipal bankruptcy in the history of the US in 1994 when Robert Citron made a made a bad bet on interest rates. Let us pray that doesn't find it's way to Texas. As Jack Nicholson once said, "go sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here."

I'm sure a large percentage of California transplants actually have Texas roots. During California's boom years, alot of Texans fled west. This is especially true for African Americans who fled racist, Jim Crow Texas for more opportunities in California. I welcome the influx of Californians. Perhaps it will help balance the pull of all of the right-wing nutjobs that call Texas home so that the state can evolve into a more tolerant, open-minded place.

Someday I hope to meet a liberal who doesn't act like this. Haven't found one yet.

More tolerant? Houston elected a lesbian democrat to run the city and San Antonio a Hispanic for mayor. The 4 largest cities all have democratic mayors and TX has one of the most diverse populations in the country. What kind of balance are you looking for?

That's true, alot of my family members were those group of Californians who migrated out of Texas to the West in the mid 1900's. And it's funny I was at a open mic last night and California people outnumbered everybody else in the building. The other crazy thing is, it was more transplants then native Houstonians. I think this city is officially made up of more transplants then natives. I certainly run into more transplants then I do natives outside of my girl's family(who are all natives)
