Nice to know Texans think so well of us.

Did it ever occur to you there might be a middle ground? I prefer Texas' economic policies, but California's social policies. Im hoping those of us who left California for employment reasons can be wise enough to keep Texas' fiscal policies, but bring Texas close to the center on social issues.

For such a "destroyed" state, I sure know a lot of people that are chomping at the bit to return to California.

I agree with you in principle. I've lived in a few red states that are seeing migrations from blue staters. They generally leave the blue states to retire in red states because the taxes and cost of living is too high in the blue states.

Obviously, I don't think people from California or the northeast are moving to the South to elect more Democrats. What seems to happen is they move to the South, find things are done differently and say to themselves "that's not how we did it back in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, etc.", so they end up voting for a candidate that sounds more familiar to them. Of course, they don't realize that what they are familiar with goes part and parcel with why they left their former state in the first place.

"When in Rome ..." What's wrong with you people trying to move here and CHANGE us? Move here and appreciate what we have and the way we have it. Geeze. If you don't like our state the way it is, DON'T MOVE HERE!! And you wonder WHY we don't like you?!?!?

Ive never displayed dislike for a fellow American coming from another region of the country? And I hardly see this widespread rumor that Californians want to make Texas like California..

Just a lot of people with big balls behind a keyboard here.

You need to get out more often then.

I believe we've had two gay mayors in a row in Houston. (Heh.) Texas has also been a blue state in terms of guvs until recently.

But, you don't know that being under the rock where you are.

I'm a Californian with Texas on the radar, and I agree with you. Most Californians I know who are considering a move to Texas are very conservative and that's what makes your state attractive to them. There are huge swaths of socially conservative regions in California - mostly in the rural interior - who have no voice in this state any longer. Here in upstate CA, we have lots of Texas influence anyway and you can even hear echoes of a Texas accent.

As a matter of fact, the liberalism of Texas' big cities is worrisome to Californians trying to leave that behind!

I love your state, but I dont check my politics at the door when moving to a new place.

Those are my views and guess what? I vote. Things are going to move closer to the center and to be perfectly frank, there is nothing you can do about it.
