It's been 9 years and I still get previous resident's mail. The house was used as a pre-hospice with 6 residents for several years. I've given up with trying to help and just trash it now. I do think at some point bill collectors and such may show up at the door, but has not happened yet.

Everyone had their own phone and TV and I still have lots of exterior wiring to dispose of.

I still get important, first class mail for the guy who owned our house 2+ years ago: car registration renewals, certified letters from his car being impounded, credit cards, etc. For the first couple of months, I texted him and let him know to come get his mail. Now I just throw it in the trash. If he cared about these things, he would have changed his address.

Just write "Return to Sender, No longer at This Address" on the mail and give it back to the postal service. Lots of those senders will stop sending mail if something is returned.

Hmm. In that case, use a magic marker on the address so it is not visible.

I have tried and tried. The Post Office still manages to bring it back. So their mail goes in the trash now.
