I feel some way about this I dont think a huge space like that unsold looks good for your main street.. but I have always felt having a book store take up such a massive and visble space was a waste.

Books-A-Million Now Packing Up Its Books, Leaving Houston Pavilions » Swamplot: Houston's Real Estate Landscape

on the other hand it frees up he space for something that can actually sale ? I mean come on Houston leaders a damn book store in this day and age ??

So what would you want to see take over such a visbale space..

Bar , club, upscale retail .etc ?

I love bookstores. But it should not be a books a million. It should be a large bookstore with a nice coffee shop and maybe even a restaurant or small jazz lounge attached. Get creative. Book stores DO bring people out believe it or not. And it brings people out all day and all night. Versus something like a bar where the basically is a ghost town all day till 10pm at night.

I,m a sorry I love books too and Im a traditionalist I perfer paper back.. but the numbers dont lie, big chain book stores and been struggling for almost a decade now. They work better when part of something else like a social lonuge type place , but as stand alone not really..

Giving up this massive space for a book store was doomed to fail

I was agreeing with you. That is what I said they needed to get creative and make it more then a bookstore. Turn it into a hip jazz lounge where one can read a book, grab a coffee and listen to some music. The space is large enough to make it a very unique space. Even a book store/movie theater/coffee shop.

I'm disappointed - I often walked over to Books a Million in the Pavillions on my lunch hour. It did have a coffee shop. I actually thought Forever 21 or BCBG would go under before the book store.

I don't think city leaders decide who rents where. Usually, it's the business owners and their realtor who approach a lease space. So the CEOs of B.A.M obviously thought they'd be successful there, I doubt the city forced them to lease that space, and i doubt the city gets to decide who gets that space next.

Not entirely true.. the deal was that it had to maintain a certain level of occupcy for awhile if it wanted to keep it triz incentive take break.. that kinda thing would make any owner want to just lease up space

How about H&M store? or another popular retail outlet.
