It can get bad. 45 going south is pretty bad in the mornings I hear. Once you clear 45 and get on the Beltway it starts moving. The Beltway/290 crossing is I think the worst stretch of the Beltway Geez whiz. I know people probably have no choice but I just can't see any logic in taking 290. I'd rather take side streets and go though lights all the way especially if you need to take 290 to get downtown. 290 is the worst. I-10 can be a biotch. 45 can be a mega biotch. But 290 is the king, queen, the whole royal family.

I don't know when you're planning on coming here but right before the Energy Corridor right now is heavy construction between Tanner and Hammerly and if you need to go West on from the Beltway to I-10 good luck. They underestimated how powerful I-10 would be because 1 lane East and West ain't cutting it during rush hour. It takes forever. You'd better off getting off and taking the feeder and then getting on I-10 either way.

I know a lady who lives in Spring near Old Town Spring who works in Westchase and she says she takes 45 to the Beltway and she can make it in 45 minutes and she gets to work for 8. Same general area give or take 20 minutes or so.

It's not getting any better in the EC. My friend used to take 10 minutes from Parkway Villages to CP, now it is 30 minutes.

DH's boss bragged that she got from the Woodlands to Bellaire in 45 minutes. When asked how long does it take to get from the back of the Woodlands to the tollroad? Add another 30 minutes.

You're looking at an hour from 45 and research forest to I-10 and highway 6 with $6 dollars in tolls. If you go to 610, add another 20-30 minutes. I live in the EC and looked at a job in The Woodlands and after checking the commute I determined it wasn't worth it.

Why not live in the EC? The aggregate commute time just isn't worth it. The maxim should be "live close to where you work." There are great living options in the EC.

Live in your car during the week in the parking lot and go home on weekends.

Did that commute over 5 years ago and its far worse now. If I left by 6am, 45 minutes to the I-10 exit and the Beltway. If I left by 4pm to go back,45-50 minutes. Left 4:30 or after, over an hour.

Willowbrook mall is a great place to pull over for a nap when it rains or there's a wreck.

In otherwords it was horrible back then, can't imagine it now. At least 2 times a week there was an issue and it was 90 minutes. If you have to have meetings in Uptown and are coming in from TW, it was 90 minutes....if it was raining, you had to cancel.

I now live in Memorial/The EC.

Commutes over 30 minutes have been shown to be as bad for your health as smoking so something to consider as well.

I'm not sure when this is going to be completed, but the Grand Parkway will be able to loop around from just south of the Woodlands right into the EC. No doubt this parkway will fill up as well with cars but in reality it should be cutting off all the traiffc from FM 2920 and south. I'm not sure when this is going to be completed. So in theory you could suffer the long commute for a year or two and then get some relief once this opens.

Thanks for all the help, guys.

I've looked into GPkwy in the past and it looks to be completed between I-10W and I-45N by 2015. I think I'll be able to suck it up. As a 21y/o I'm not too worried about adverse health affects, not yet.

I don't get where all these optimistic commute times come from. When I occasionally drive from the EC to a friends house in the Woodlands it 45 minutes on the weekend. Going the new 99 route looks even longer, at least from the 8/10 intersection.

And don't forget the 290 is under construction till when, 2019? That will have a big on the 99 route.
