Also, when will Houston relinquish its ETJ on the faux Katy and Richmond areas? Richmond and Katy each have around 15k folks, but people who use Richmond or Katy addresses are probably nearing 1/2 a million people.

Do outer Houstonians not want to incorporate? There are well over 1 million people living in unincorporated Harris county areas. Are there benefits to not being in any city? Or is this just Houston's power run amok?
I don't think the City of Houston is ready or wants to take on all the unincorporated areas. They currently have plans to annex part of east Houston (around San Jacinto and Navigation). They would have to hire a heck lot more police officers, build more firestations (hire more firefighters) etc etc. A good chunk of the "faux" Katy and all of Richmond area (zip codes) are actually in Fort Bend Co.

They are, however, very interested in and exercise regularly Limited Purpose ETJ to collect taxes from commercial areas. Areas along Westpark/FM 1093 are a great example of this, as well as along the Grand Parkway.

We need the good old days when Houston just Ate whatever it wanted. Clear Lake? Sure, Kingwood? Why not? Now they worry about cost and maintenance. Houston certainly didn't worry about maintaining Alief. It let it go to pot pretty quickly.

And city of Houston does not respect county lines either. There is a section of city of Houston in Fort Bend county already. It's not the best of areas. There are several Fort Bend ISD schools in the city of Houston's ForBenCo city limits. Kansas City, Missouri goes in to three counties.

I grew up in that "not best area of Houston inside Fort Bend"...it's a mixed area as where I grew up we had 4 to 5 bedroom homes and several pro athletes lived out there in the 70s and 80s.....

other parts were single family homes but more geared for starter homes and starter families....but again, little to no multifamily dwellings except 1 townhome complex

And now, retail has taken notice as the area you referred to is at the crossroads of the FB Tollway and Beltway 8 and is 15 minutes from downtown....

FBISD hated that area as it used to dominate its sports and it began to hold its own academically so they broke it up....
