That list has lost all credibility by not having Smitty's on it.

City Market (the one in Luiling, Texas. Not that chain that piggy backs off the name).
Kreuz in Lockhart
Smitty's in Lockhart
Chisholm Trail in Lockhart
Black's in Lockhart
Louis Mueller's in Taylor
Franklin's in Austin
John Mueller Meat Co. in Austin
Snow's in Lexington
Cooper's in Llano

These are the places that are non-negotiable. Everything else can fight it out for the rest of the spots.

ok, i know this isnt a TOP 50 bbq place in texas (or even top 100)....but we loved it for the small, local, family oriented business it is....(we try to support local businesses as much as we can)

country time bbq & fixins. it's on Richard Rd just north of Rayford Rd....

Maybe someone can answer this question. My favorite is Demeris as seems to be the case for many non-natives. Non-natives tend to not like this place at all.

Why is that?

No. It doesn't, but I like to give my money to local businesses.

Are you asking why non-natives like it and non-native don't like it? I'm a bit confused.

Joe's Crab Shack is a local business (headquartered right by the Galleria - Landry's), but , I'll skip it.

how much would you expect to pay for a 2 meat plate and a drink? Their prices are on par with any decent bbq place in town.

you're also under no obligation to tip at a counter service place.

Have you tried Franklin's or J Mueller though? Gaitlin is good, but it is not close to the best. Franklin's is rated #1 in the nation by many outlets, and the article linked in this OP has them #1 in Texas, and it's for a reason. Sat-Sun you will be waiting 3 hours to get your food, and if you don't get there early it is sold out. And it is not just hype, it really is that good.
