Brother, after partying in different countries, I have noticed that it doesn't matter where the venue is, just as long as the party is swinging. Take a landfill, throw up a couple speakers, lots of alcohol and an easy way for people to get there and you will have a party they will be raving about for years

Is it Dead like our chances of hosting another superbowl was before yesterday?

If so then I like those odds
I wasn't one of the Super Bowl naysayers. I liked our chances, and am thrilled we won it. I believe Houston should go all in to get every event of this type. And we generally do (visionary civic leaders--thank you!).

But light rail is different. There is so much anti-light rail sentiment, I don't believe Metro can resurrect the west side line in time. Just MHO...

Rail is in Houston's future. We cannot rely on roads forever with our rapidly expanding population.
Because light rail is one of the MOST inefficient methods of transport known to man. I am not anti-mass transit, I just think light rail is a joke.

Just this week, it was revealed our light rail system has the highest cheating rate (of fare paying riders) of ANY transit system in the country! In the country! Metro is focused on building miles, with little regard as to proper system design or whether it makes sense to do what they do. The bigger the system they build, the bigger the bureaucracy needed to manage it, hence job creation & security, and the bigger the budget. How long before they ask for more money?

Give me a well-thought out, area-wide transit plan, and I'm the first in line to vote for it. This monster Metro has wrought--ha!

Do you have the link to the study which showed that Houston has the most people who don't pay? I am not doubting you, just wanna see. I know DART and other systems had major troubles with it too

Oh, and as for the university line, they are not going to rush it. Parker says yesterday that they don't have enough time to get it ready. The environmental studies have all been done they can build that thing in less than two years but they like stretching things out.

One of the biggest problems is that Metro has reduced their random stops, when I first got back to Houston in 2007, running into a metro cop was at least a once a week thing. now I can count on one hand the number of times they have done a random ticket check in the last two years..

I just don't see U-line happening anytime soon. Hope I'm wrong though. With the Economy improving hopefully we can get some additional federal funding but if left u to our local Republican Congressmen on the transportation committee, I wouldn't hold my breath. If we had the same Republican Congressmen that Dallas had the U-line would have been built a long time ago. I don't know what's wrong with the ones down here.

Everybody is celebrating but nobody mentions the price tag of hosting the Super Bowl.

Fare evasion is bad business for Metro - Houston Chronicle

Worth every penny of it.

Houston is the biggest city that no one knows anything about. Heck, half the time they mention us on the national news (for any reason), they say "Houston TX". They never introduce Dallas TX, or Miami FL. Just Miami, or Dallas. People don't know where Houston is? Really?

So getting people to actually come here, and see what an amazing city we are, and how diverse we are, and how we all get along with each other, and what a great city it is for business, or to raise your kids... that's good for all of us.

So yeah, spend those dollars.
