We are relocating from Connecticut (right outside NYC) to Katy in late July. We have a large golden retriever and will be driving her down.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the easiest routes and places to stop and stay that are dog friendly? I am thinking we will try and make it in 3 days (2 nights).

Thank you!

We made the trek down about 6 years ago from Hartford, but I can't offer much help as we first went across upstate NY and Canada to visit family in Michigan. I'm sure the best rout straight from NY\CT is different than from Michigan.

Google hotels that are dog friendly. You will be fine but please be prepared to give your dog a lot of a/c especially this first summer. This heat and humidity is going to be brutal on all that fur since she is not acclimated and you are arriving in summer. Heat stroke is a very real thing in pets. Also, make sure she is up to date on a good flea prevention. Frontline is losing its efficacy here in the Gulf Coast. Have your Vet call a reputable vet here to make sure you are using the right meds. Heartworms are outrageous here as well. In some states people take breaks from heartworm pills in the winter. You can not do that here, please do not try. Lastly, make sure she has her health certificate because many states you will cross in to could require it. Good luck and enjoy.
