To those of you living in Southwest Houston:

What areas flood badly? Roads impassable? Can't get out of your driveway due to high water on your street?

59 Feeder road floods around Hilcroft. Fondren, Beechnut, and Hilcroft all flood around 59. It's just a really big mess in Sharpstown during heavy rain. But the absolute worst flooding occurs on Fondren. Just stay off the roads in that area when heavy rain is expected.

I've been in SW Houston during flooding and my car was practically a boat.

Google SW Houston flooding. There's some good pictures on khou and chron.com from about a month or so ago.

It floods pretty bad in Sharpstown but thankfully the water never reaches the homes!

There are literally thousands of street corners that flood all over Houston. Flash floods recede quickly. It might delay you an hour or so. Sometimes the rains are worse and sometimes not. Many times the flash floods are only in certain parts of Houston. All I can say is talk to neighbors. This does not happen monthly. It might happen once or twice a year. The odds you need to drive during that time are slim.

Fondren definitely floods more than once or twice a year. I used to drive it daily and all it took was a heavy rainstorm and it was underwater from HBU to Jack in the Box. No threat to homes but definitely a threat to your car if you feel the need to drive through it. As for Hilcroft and Beechnut I agree that it floods less often.

Thanks for the info. We are looking at houses in the Willowbend area now and wanted to get an idea of street flooding problems.
