Not sure about trends. I just know about this from shopping for new insurance a few months ago, from what some agents said to shopping online and playing around a little.

Some companies aren't writing new policies at all for a multi-county region, but are grandfathering their current customers. Others look at county, others zip code, others look at pieces of certain zip codes and distance to the water as the crow flies. Unfortunately you have to do a lot of homework, or get ripped off.

Luckily, I've already gotten a quote from SF since we have our autos and another home insured with them. What other companies should I target for comparison quotes? I'd hate to go on a wild goose chase only to keep finding out that 77407 is not a "covered" zip code. TIA!
Most builders offer a "preferred" insurance company when you are buying your house, usually lowest premium you will get but might be someone you have never heard of before.
