We are working on buying a home in Crosby. Land, pool, barns for my horses, etc... And we are having a heck of a time finding homeowners insurance. We were with Germania up by Dallas but they said they won't write and policies for Harris County. Same answer from All State. Farmers Insurance says they won't do one because we have horses. We are trying Texas Farm Bureau but haven't heard back from them yet. I didn't realize getting homeowners insurance would be this difficult. Our credit is excellent, they are just telling us upfront no Harris County policies.

Anyone have any feedback on Texas Farm Bureau?

Also, any insurance agents out there that are insuring house with land and livestock in Harris County?

Have you thought of using an independent insurance agent who represents multiple insurance companies? They search to find the best coverage and price for you.

After Hurricane Ike a lot of insurance companies pulled out of Harris County especially on the east side of town or areas close to the coast.

Thanks for the info. I'll check those out. I'm really surprised it's as difficult as it is. It makes me wonder about new development in Harris County if you can't get insurance for the home. We had called a couple of more places and had received the same answer. Sorry, no Harris County. The house I'm trying to buy isn't in any of the evacuation zones for cat 1-5 from what I can tell. I wish they could do it by zip code instead of county.

We were in a similar situation years ago when we purchased our first house. It was a new development very close to the city, but because it was new, only one insurance company covered it. Only one. You can imagine the price. It took about 4 years before other companies started covering the same area. I'd check every year praying someone else would come and cover us. Never in a million years I would have thought something like this can happen.
Good luck to you with the insurance. Hope the price won't be a bummer.

We were able to go with Texas Farm Bureau. They cover animal liability and offer coverage specific to our ranchette the others weren't able to offer. We are paying a bit but I'm okay with it for the extra coverages we are getting.
