Hello,
I just moved to Houston and am really missing the greenery from the place I lived previously. I'd like to find an area (as close to the loop as possible, if not within the loop) in which to rent an apartment, but I'd like it to have a good amount of trees, the more, the better. I know inner city Houston isn't known for this but I'm hoping I can find a greener apartment complex, if not, neighborhood. I'll be renting an apartment and would like to stay under $1000 a month. Can someone recommend an area like this that is safe? My job will be in the galleria area but I plan to spend time socially in Montrose, so would like relatively easy access to both.

You want to spend your social time in the middle of the city, but want more trees at your residence. Try Garden Oaks/Oak Forest area.

No apartments in GOOF and you can't rent a house in OPs budget.

Houston is covered with trees. Try looking in Memorial - there are quitre a few older complexes along Memorial Drive that might suit your needs.

There are lots of trees in Montrose as opposed to the suburbs where they clear cut everything to cram in more houses and buildings. You should look at some of the older apartments along Richmond and West Alabama near St. Thomas University. You may need to up your budget, as others have suggested, to be in the inner loop. Newer apartments will run higher than the older ones.

Really there are lots of trees in Houston. Just not in the west where it all used to be cattle farms or rice fields. East of Post Oak/West Loop/290 has a lot more trees. And even the Memorial area in the west.

Would you happen to have heard anything about 9900 Memorial? This is an apartment complex west of the Galleria. It appears to have a lot of trees on the property and the prices are within my range. I'm not very familiar with the area yet but it looks great in the photos--however I know photos can be very deceptive.
