What are the chances of catching West Nile Virus from a mosquito in Houston? Houston seems like such a great city, but I am a very outdoor person and if I have to deal with worrying about mosquitos and possibly catching that dreadful disease then forget about it.

If your a child 15 or younger or 55+ I would say 60% no 40% yes

Now if you 16 to 54 35%

If you do not spend much time of outside in evening 5:30pm to 8:30pm late spring to summer just about none

The media tells you the young and old has a better chance of getting it and everyone else has a less change so my % are kinda in line

Your chances are greater of dying a Houston freeway. It is true younger and older people are more vulnerable. That said, you should probably use insect repellent if you are out in the evening.

Well that should cut our population down by about half. This should help with home prices.

People here just live their lives and don't stress about it. I just wear repellant and stay inside if the Mosquitos are really bad at dusk. They spray for Mosquitos here quite often . I also find staying on hiking trails or sidewalks cuts down on bites vs. tramping through a field.

I have a friend who was one of the cases in 2012, it really wiped him out for a while. He doesn't live to far off Buffalo Bayou. Hope they give it a good spraying again this year.
