I am now with TXU and am not happy with a 14.1 kWh rate. My ignorance has cost me and to get out it will be worst. Checked out the Gexa rate of 6.1 and with the TDU charge theirs would be around 9.3. However reading some of the post on this website it is a 3 month contract and if you do not cancel prior to the expiration their rates will double. I can see this as a got's U, as most people will forget to cancel. I personally do not have the time to keep up with cancellation dates. If I could find something for around 10 kWh total I could afford to get rid of TXU. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It is a crappy game meant to ********* over. Capitalism and deregulation at it's finest. I keep track of my contracts on my iphone.

If you use power to choose as mentioned already it looks like you can find rates in the 10 cent range. I would avoid the three month contract right now as it will leave you right at the beginning of summer when the rates are typically higher. I have always done my contracts in 12 month increments from around feb to feb.

I see rates around 9-10 for 12 months. No reason not to try those.

it really does matter how much you use though ( over 500kwh, 1000kWh, 2000kwh) so dont let those prices fool you.

Some charge a base fee ( upwards of $14.99) if you dont use enough electricity, some give you credit at certain thresholds, and some nickle and dime you for your monthly bill statement, fees for autopay or not having autopay, and stupid other things that aren't part of the electricity itself like save the planet fees.

personally i have TXU since they dont have these hidden charges. It's straight forward billing. Mine is 12 cents no matter how much or little i use ( 12 month commitment).

We have Reliant. We pay $.046 pre kWh under 1000 kWh per month. No base and only a pass through charge or distribution fee. Don't just look online. Call them and negotiate.

we are going thru this mess with Reliant now - they are charging exorbitant base charges like
Rate min 11.8/kwh varies with usage AND $8.99(fixed)+3.8cents/kwh distribution charge
So please be careful when signing up

some companies have flat fixed rate not extras such as above - would recommend those

I've had Reliant for many years and have been able to get low rates. Four years ago I had a 1-year contract at 8 cents/kwh with no hidden/additional fees. When that contract ended, I got one for $125/month flat rate for an all-electric home -- no average billing or hidden fees. I've renewed that contract for the last two years.

About 2-3 months before my contract expires each year, I start checking out available renewal options on the Reliant website. Some of the really good deals are posted there for only a short while so I usually check every day.
