Hey y'all

After slowly working my way around Texas for school, I've started working in Dallas as a lawyer for a law firm up here. I will be relocating to the Houston office of our firm later this spring/summer, and would like to know some ideas of places to live.

Right now, I live in Uptown Dallas. I'm single and have a pretty big dog.

Any ideas for good places to live?

I would recommend living out in Midtown the Heights or Galleria area.

The Heights for a lawyer?? I don't know. That area is generally for the bohemian population of Houston.

I'd recommend any neighborhood from downtown to Uptown heading west. Come down and drive around, give us a look-see.

There are lawyers in the Heights. Maybe bohemian isn't the right word... more like progressive. They're usually romantically involved with artists... hmm, so maybe you have a point there.

Heights? How Bohemian are we talking? I spent four years in Austin, so I've seen some pretty...eclectic areas.

I've been to Houston's Midtown a few times, usually just to hit the bars. Anyone have any opinions on living in that area? Are there any townhomes or is it all apartments?

And where is Houston's Uptown? Is that the Galleria-area?

I'm also undecided as to going for an apartment or a house. Having a yard would help with the dog, but being single, living in an apt community seems to be a way to meet more people.

Thanks for your help so far. Keep the opinions coming!

The Uptown District of Houston, is located 6.2 miles (10 km) west of downtown and centered along Post Oak Boulevard, Westheimer Rd, and the Galleria.
