Possums have too low a body temperature to sustain the rabies virus. (I became a possum "aficionado" when my Frenchie & Cavalier cornered one once----I decided to learn what I could about them. Also had one precede me right into the garage one night, & another hitched a ride in the undercarriage of my car one time).

Well the possum continued its gradually moving circular motion as it moved 50 ft down the esplanade. This evening it sits on the edge of the road, apparently dead. A squirrel is dead on the road a few feet away, stretched in a running position. Maybe they ate the mushrooms that grow out there.

I wonder if animal control will come get them out of the street now.

Goodness what a sad story for these critters.

And what is the purpose of Animal Control if they won't help out Houston residents with these issues?

Does not appear that they help out in these situations.

I found an injured fledgling about a month ago and Animal Control came out and picked it up. I just assumed that Animal Control in every state operates this way.

Thought possums were nocturnal and came to feed on our garbage (Thursday am is trash day, many put theirs out Wed night). Been going on since 6 this morning...

Options...1) call animal control, 2) Do nothing and let it run its course, 3) Pistol, shovel, bag.
I was going to vote for #3. I see possums in my back yard all the time, day and night, we kill as many as we can, they are nasty little critters.
