Nice graphic.

Interesting to note, because it's sometimes asked here with regard to jobs:

#1 in Manufacturing
#1 in Healthcare
#2 in Engineering
#2 in Finance, Accounting
#3 in Green jobs
#6 in Computer science

Where they get this from..i didn't see in the graphics.

Questionable regarding number 2 Finance and 3 Green Jobs.

If it is corporate finance, fine. If it is banking/investments finance, I don't think so.

Green jobs? Almost oxymoron in the oil capital.

You'd be surprised. Many of the skillsets required in O&G are useful for green energy jobs as well. Hence, the reason that Houston's a big green energy center and this will only grow over time.

The Top 10 Cities For Green Jobs - Forbes

It's the energy capital of the world, not the oil capital of the world.

Lets just condense this down to the basics: 1) lots of good jobs; 2) relatively low cost of living. That's the entire reason to live here. If you want to enjoy stunning scenery while unemployed, Houston is not a good option.

Look closer.

And sources are all listed under the graphic at the bottom of the page, if you're interested.

Not all sources are accurate though....average sales price of a house in Houston is $206,000 now, directly from HAR, not from some third party...if I recall median was $203,000...and I think the info had it at $185,000..

Cost of living here is low, but they used some outdated stats.

There is lots to do in the way of arts/culture, and that is mentioned ... but yes, most of it will be indoors type of activities.

The cost of living is not as low anymore. Housing keeps increasing, groceries keep going up and up as do soft good prices. And it will continue to keep getting higher. In fact, The Houston Chronicle had a story about how housing prices are about to soar in Texas. This will pinch a lot of people as we pretty much only tax property.

The other reasons I do agree with. It is a pretty good place to live. It will never be NYC, SF or Chicago, but it could come pretty close. And it will always be far superior to Uppity Dallas and "liberal pretend" Austin.
