I am considering moving to Houston from Minneapolis. What should Is expect? I am excited about the warmer weather but also scared about the traffic and humidity. Is it possible to rent a nice one bedroom loft in downtown with a great view for a reasonable price?

"Reasonable price" is relative to your budget. Yes you can rent lofts downtown. You should post your budget and general location of where you work and you'll get much better information.

Pros:
Weather
Cost of living
Economy
Outdoor activities
Big city amenities
Theatre/arts
Returants
Shopping
Multi national city
Close to the coast

Cons:
Humidity
Allergies
Traffic
No zoning
Sprawl
Poor public transportation

My budget is $1200-$1300. one bed room. Also, I work close to clear lake. What would be a good neighborhood for an easy commute?

Are there lakes/beaches close by to combat summer? How common is it for apartment building to include a swimming pool?

Galveston's about an hour away down on the Gulf and has quite a few beaches that people don't usually get in because of the massive amounts of seaweed lol.

And yes, a lot of apt. communities here have pools.

So, what would be a nice summer getaway? Personally I don't sweat gracefully and hence I am scared of the humidity. Is it common for apartments to have central air ? If not, can I find one that does? I can't imagine not having central air when the humidity is high. Does wearing sun screen become second nature for people who live in Houston?

All apartments will have central air. While it does get hot in Houston during the summer, there are a lot of people here from colder climates who adjust with no problems. A lot of people do not wear sun screen. They just primarily stay indoors until the evening. Let me put it this way - in the middle of the day in July you can still find road crews patching the road with hot asphalt, you will still see police academy cadets jogging, and in the parks you will find a few people kicking soccer balls. The heat sucks, but it's easier to adjust to than extreme cold.

Also if you work near Clear Lake, and don't like traffic, then you may want to stay in Clear Lake. It's like a small city unto itself.

I wouldn't worry about adjusting to the humidity. I was born and raised in NYC and lived in Upstate NY for the 7 years before I moved to Houston 2 years ago with the family. I love the cold and snow and thought that I'd never adjust, but in the 2 Summer's that I've been here, it hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be.

Thanks. I like trendy happening neighborhoods with restaurants, book stores, bars, and shops that I can walk to. That's why I was thinking downtown. I imagine the bad traffic is only during rush hour? I thought clear lake is a suburb?
