Hey all, so after months of negotiating a job offer I've accepted and we are starting our relocation process! Exciting, nerve-racking and overwhelming all at the same time! My wife and I are coming from Wisconsin so we are trading our harsh winters for harsh summers. We are relcoating in two phases since we have a home here in Wisconsin that we need to sell. I'll move down first and my wife will stay in Wisconsin to help offset our temporary dual housing payments.

So we start driving tonight (wife will fly back to WI on Sunday), gonna rent an apartment for the first year until we get our bearings. Found a nice one just south of Tomball on off of 249 in the Northpointe area. It was the 20th place I looked at!! It seems like a good location, work should be a 15-20 minute commute. When I was down looking at apartments it's just impressive how big Houston actually is. Nothing like driving non-stop for 4 days looking for a place to live to give you the perspective!

I think this is gonna be a very challenging time, being away from my wife and our extended family, not to mention 'bachelor' apartment living again. It's a good career move, I just hope we are able to find our place in the community sooner than later. So any Wisconsinites or Packer fans willing to welcome us to town let me know!

Welcome! That is a pretty good area of town. Great that you can be that close to work. If I lived there, I'd have an hour plus drive to work!

I know there are plenty of Packer fans down here. A friend is one, and she's a native Houstonian. They have parties and gatherings for games and such around town. Should be able to find some friends down here.

Good luck on the drive and getting settled.

Certainly won't convert, but I don't see much conflict-of-interest becoming a fan of a team in the AFC South JJ Watt is a Wisconsin guy so it's all good.

Well I just dropped of my wife at the airport to go back to Wisconsin, **** got real!

Welcome to Houston. We have 2 native Wisconsinites at my house (spouse & MIL). They hate the hot summers. At least you will be much closer to the Culvers' restaurants in Tomball than we are in Missouri City.

So, where do they go for cheese curds?

I've only recently been initiated to this tasty treat, but I've only had them at Culvers and Cheddars.

Where is the go to place in Houston, if such a place exists?

We don't have a local place for curds (like they like them) yet. We do order some from Belle Plain Cheese (Shawano, WI) a few times a year. We will have to try Cheddars again as I didn't know they have curds.
