Harris County property tax bills on the rise - Prime Property

Most interesting is this:

Quote:
For 2015, the average Harris County home is valued at $149,867 with a tax bill of $3,553
I guess there is still alot of affordable home in Houston.

Of course there is. But more interesting is how that price point (and a bit higher) is still looked upon as "sketchy" in here. So around 3/5ths of Harris county is "sketchy" by that logic.

Do you wish you lived in a house that cost $150,000? Be careful what you wish for.

It's the typical "I wish I had a Ferrari and paid insurance, maintenance and gas as if it was a Geo metro"

Well, my parents home is about $170k and the neighborhood is fine. I'll admit my neighborhood is a little more expensive than that. Regardless, if all I could afford is a $150k home, I would be completely happy with it. I rather live in a smaller home or more dangerous neighborhood than live pay check to pay check.

It doesn't seem like a lot, but there is a big difference in neighborhoods at $150k vs. $175k. I can't think of many neighborhoods I'd feel okay living in at $150k, but can think of several at $175k.
