Klein ISD or Tomball ISD (Houston, Sugar Land: credit, asbestos, top schools)

We currently live in Sugar Land and are looking to relocate to Northwest Houston to be closer to work. The Woodlands is too far so I was considering Tomball ISD or Klein ISD. My oldest is in 8th, so high school is a big concern.

Looking online it seems like Tomball ISD has better ratings and is smaller, but Klein was recommended by a friend. When I looked at Klein (the Gleanloch Farms area) the high school didn't look as well rated.

I've search here for similar questions, but the information is not current. Any experience with these schools/district?

Klein H.S. is good, followed by Klein Oak, Klein Collins and stay away from Klein Forest.


Tomball Memorial H.S. is good, Tomball H.S. - Don't know.

When your kid is old enough for H.S., look into the dual credit classes. Good way to get them a jump start into college.

Tomball is very conservative. If you are, you'll like it. If you have a teen that's gay (for example), you will not.

And you think Klein is not. Some years ago, a young woman wanted to start a club for gays at Klein High school. There were many who would rather do away with all clubs rather than let the girl start a club like PFLAG. They had the money to go through the courts. Reason prevailed. But most of those people are still in control.

Klein will be more diverse. As in, it'll look like a grocery store. A mix of every ethnicity all together.

Tomball is pretty much white with hispanics dominating in certain pockets.

Klein Oak is a good school. Just because a school has high numbers doesn't mean your kid will magically be just as smart by osmosis. They have to pull their own weight too in a good 50/50. I say Klein.

Your oldest is almost hig school but you have younger ones. Hassler and Frank are the number 1 and top schools in Klein and Dorre is good too for middle. Hassler and Frank look like Tomball but the kids will have more of everyone once they hit middle and high school as those schools cover a wider boundary area.

As long as the kid won't be at Klein Forest they'll be in a really good high school. If they play a sport then Klein is good because those high schools really know how to churn out scholarships for athletes of every color and I know a few who did good in band and got good scholarships as well from Klein High.

Klein High wins by far. They just remodeled the highschool so it looks aesthetically better. In terms of academic, Klein High has a reputation of sending alot of their kids to Ivy League Schools.

Remodeling a school building has nothing to do with academics.
In college, my chemistry classes were in a building that must be around 100 years old and look like a big old brick house.

I was informed by a trustee that the remodel of Klein High school cost should have included the $500,000 they pizzed off when they delayed the start of HS 5. The architect site work had started and the money would be wasted.

They had to tear down Klein HS due to asbestos and dampness problems in buildings that had serious drainage problems.
