Thank you for all the advices. We know it would be expensive to raise a dog, especially a puppy. I am aware and prepared for the expenses along the way, but like PinkLadyK said, paying the big bucks like $1800 to $2500 for the puppy will not guarantee his/her future health. I think its just how you take care of the dog matter. I have registered my name to Petharbor already, hopefully we will be able to bring a puppy home soon.

Aha...How old is your daughter? Little kids want a lot of different things all the time. This is a 10 year commitment. Get her a stuffed toy and pretend to walk it 3x per day and feed and water. If she can do it for 1 month without fail, and still wants one, foster one.

I'm all for teaching a child responsibility, but IMHO, if you plan on trying to give a little kid full responsibility of a dog you shouldn't get one at all. Get a hamster or goldfish instead.
It's either a FAMILY want/decision or none at all.

you were right about the little kid wanting things. My husband and I knew we are going to be the ones taking care of the puppy. My girl is 7, but she is a very responsible 7 year old girl. We have been talking about having the puppy for a long time, it was just because we used to live in a smaller backyard and now we have a lot bigger backyard that we think its the right time to have the dog....
