Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of purchasing a home and trying to decide on which HOI to go with. currently the 2 best quotes I have are from Progressive and from Cypress Texas Lloyds a local company.

I've never dealt with a local insurance company before. So can anyone give me some thoughts and opinions on going with a large insurance company or local insurance company.

Thanks..

@DSL_PWR, I'm actually working with an agent at TWFG who gave me the quote for Progressive. Another local agent gave me a quote for Cypress Texas Lloyds. I just don't have any experience with either and would like to get some thoughts on large insurance company vs local insurance company.

Thanks..

Check their insurance rating to see if they have the financials to pay claims in the future.

Balance cost with service. You want to know that the company will promptly take care of you when you need them. I use Farmers. Not the cheapest though.

Progressive are the jerks that use telemetry to monitor their drivers activities so that Daddy insurance company can easily spank its naughty customers.

If you are eligible, look into USAA. They are the absolute best, not the cheapest, but excellent service.

Avoid Progressive. I have heard way too many bad things about them and when I got into a wreck with a driver who had them and was at fault, they were a major PITA to deal with. Thankfully USAA ended up quickly taking care of my repairs and other expenses and then went after the other driver and Progressive on my behalf.

Metlife has the best rates in the Houston area. Seriously. Shop around and then call Metlife. They even beat Carlton Kon's rate for me, and Carlton definitely had the best rate by a significant margin over the rest.

You probably want a HO-B policy (do your homework). Best deal I've found: Centauri through an independent agent. They are relatively new to Texas and offer good rates if you have a monitored alarm system. I have no affiliation; I'm just a happy customer (that has no claim experience with them).
