Lots of people looking for a crash, even hoping for one. Things are slowing down a bit, but going from booming/crazy to a normal market. Of course, it could get worse depending on how long it lasts. But for now, just a bit slower.

I'd think that indirectly it might. If all the folks who came here during the boom times or the folks who have been laid off start packing up (if oil shows no sign of recovery) and move to other cities, business will be losing customers. Healthcare is just that, another business that needs customers (patients). I am not saying there will be major slowdown for healthcare but saying it is not affected "at all" is not accurate, imo.

It's actually a good thing. There was an article in the Wall Street Journal about the crashing commercial real estate market in Houston, and I can confirm. I'm in the market for new office space and they are throwing in significant discounts and incentives to get me to sign the lease. They seem desperate.

Vacant Office Spaces Pile Up in Houston - WSJ

I think the lower oil prices are better for me and for the nation as a whole.

I don't see how destroying American energy production and increasing our energy dependence on foreign sources is a good thing for the nation or the "whole" in the long run. It is short sighted to say the least.

Houston had a boom due to oil starting around 2010. Given it's gone bust, it's reasonable to assume house prices and economic activity will result to pre-2010 levels (probably lower due to the overshooting nature of markets.

And given pretty much all S&p 500 companies that are based in this city are related to oil and gas, it's optimistic to say the least to think that other aspects of the city will be unaffected. Just will take a couple years to work its way through.

I live very close to you and that has not been what has happened in our neighborhood whatsoever. The house next door to me and across the street have been on the market since we moved in.

And yes, both houses were recently remodeled.
