My partner and I are strongly considering moving to Houston--one of our criteria is locating ourselves close to a top children's hospital. The goal is to be no more than 30 minutes or so from the hospital but I can't figure out if anything that close to the hospital is desirable as far as where to live. I.E. what are the names of the places that would be close, not too urban, reasonably priced, etc.

Partner also needs to work no nore than 20-30 minutes from home and I've been having trouble figuring out what companies are on that side of the area.

Any advice? Thanks

They are building a Texas Children's in Katy. That's affordable.

TMC and areas that you could get to it in under 30 minutes are urban.

Oh, they are....that's what I was afraid of. Here in Phoenix I can get from my suburb to our children's hospital in 30 minutes most times of day, but I know Houston is a much bigger pond!

Reading their website, they have health centers in outlying areas....is that what they're building in Katy? Health center vs. hospital?

Looks like they have centers that do what we need at Clear Lake, Sugar Land, Cy-Fair and the Woodlands (which all sound expensive to me ).

Are those places expensive and too far to commute to the city for work? Ah.....this is so overwhelming!!

Seems to me that you need to ask WHY you're moving to be close to Texas Children's Hospital (TCH). I say that because, as good as they may be, the satellite facilities will not offer the same level of services that the central hospital in the Medical Center will. If there is something specific about being close to TCH that can only be met in the medical center, then your choice living place place will be limited to that area. TCH is an excellent pediatric hospital, BTW. One of the best in the U.S.

Finally, I would encourage you to define "reasonable price." To me, that means anything under $750K. To others, the number will be different. If you provide a general price range that will help people give you some feedback.

Those areas, you can get a 10 yr old, 2200 sq ft house (4/2/2, 1 story) for about $190k (give or take) in a well-kept neighborhood, nothing extravagant. Is that expensive?

Commute going home from the prime working locations in Houston are approximately 45 mins for Sugar Land, 1 hr for Clear Lake and about 1:15-1:30 for the Woodlands and Cy Fair. Is that too far? People here do it every day. You have to be "tough" to a certain degree and if you're not, you won't be able to stand it after very long.
