Stan Stanart. He seems to be very proud about his newly redesigned marriage licenses, but does not seem to be concerned about the archaic website.

This is just a rant...

My husband and I were married at the Harris County Courthouse. Hubby passed away on April 8th. I need our marriage license to facilitate life insurance and several other things. The ML is missing since our move in 2014. I will have to mail a request with a money order or certified check to get a copy. Who knows how long that is going to take? Why can't I order one online?!?!?

In response to your question, I have checked the websites for Harris, Dallas, Tarrant and Bexar County Clerks. Interestingly enough, none of those counties offer online purchase of copies of marriage licenses. You can purchase copies of other recorded instruments dealing with real estate for different periods of time, varying from county to county, but none of them offer copies of marriage licenses online, for whatever reason. So Harris County isn't failing to offer a service that comparable counties elsewhere in Texas are offering.

However, you should be able to get a copy (plain or certified) copy of your marriage license at the County Clerk's office at any one of the nine Harris County Courthouse Annexes. While you still might have to get in the car and drive to one, you can probably find one closer to you than the main office at 201 Caroline. And the parking at the annex locations is usually free, too. What a deal! Harris County Clerk's Office

Edited to add: Condolences on the passing of your husband.

It seems that she lives in Little Rock now. Thus, the need for the online order of a marriage certificate.

According to the website: "You can contact the Information Department by phone at 713-755-6405 ... If paying with a major credit card you can place your order by phone."

You might be able to get a courthouse messenger service to walk over and get the document then overnight it to you. See link for an example of such a service. Maybe an attorney on this board could do it for you at a very minimal charge. Helpful Links | Hour Messenger | Delivery Services, Courier Services, Hotshot | Houston, TX
