You beat me to it. I thought all along GE and Baker would be a great match. Plus GE loves buying valuable companies when they are undervalued. And this oil crash has certainly reduced the upfront cost.

GE will make an offer. They will then propose casting off certain parts to help win over the anti-trust crusaders. They will sweeten the pot a couple times, and concede a couple more points to win over the authorities. And then make it happen. GE is in it for the long haul, they usually make major decisions like this by looking 5-10 years down the line. And they have the cash (around $150 billion and growing!).

GE for the win!

Don't underestimate the $3.5B that HAL has to pay Baker, in cash, by Wednesday.

Yeah I see it more likely that Baker takes that 3.5B from this deal falling through and goes on a buying spree. Plenty of distressed service and equipment companies available that they can add to their portfolio for a good price.

I hope for everyone's sake that GE does not buy it. GE does nothing other than buy companies and run them into the ground with their absolutely abysmal company wide ethics.

Halliburton has always been a great company to work with...Baker too....All GE ever does is buy and destroy. No innovation at all, and their CEO is a scum bag....This past year he announced that during the oil/gas downturn, that GE was going to look for additional revenue by suing its vendors...Ya, great business model...Sue the people who keep you running. See how long that works.

And no - I have not been sued by GE.

I know GE had made an offer for Baker before the Halliburton deal went down (or so they thought), so I'm betting they will revive the interest.
