Houston daily news is very scary. It seems like Houston has a lot of heinous crimes that happen on a regular basis. It is also reported that Houston has over 20,000 active gang members in Harris County. What's really going on there? I'm almost afraid to move there.

The most dangerous place in Houston is behind the wheel of your car. Don't let anyone tell you different.

Actually, that's the most dangerous place you can be in any city.

Never looked at it like that. Damn, that's true.

In a hurry, I have wandered off, leaving my garage open. OK. Maybe only twice in 10 years - but still. Both times I returned home with neighbors out, impatiently waiting for me to return home - because they were worried. This is Houston. I gift them popcorn, chocolate/whatever. They do not understand how I actually I hold them. Houstonians are the best people on earth.

Tell you what, go to Sunnyside or Acres Homes after dark and find out how safe Houston is.

So I guess it's certain areas of Houston like all other cities?

To be honest though, I have also wondered this since I moved here in April. The news seems to have a lot more negative information to report than I was used to in NY/NJ. And it's not even just the city itself, but the suburbs. For example, a lot more bank robberies than I've ever noticed anywhere else I've lived. My husband did some research and it did seem like the Houston metro has more criminal activity than the areas we've lived in. I don't know, maybe the news here doesn't have much more to report?
