Have you tried Shiva's in Sugar Land town center?

Also, you can ask for mild versions at many Indian restaurants.

Thanks,

1) Saravana Bhavan on Westheimer road
2) Himalayas ( Hillcroft/ 59)
Biriyani Pot ( for Biriyanis, rest of the food is average)

1 and 2 are the best in serving authentic South Indian and North Indian food..And both places are noisy though.

I love Biriyani pot, but found Himalayas to be too oily. Himalayas is also more Paki than south Indian isn't it?

One note about Biriyani Pot, I've taken coworkers there and a lot of them will say the food is too spicy. Not sure that it would fit the bill for the OP, but it's a great restaurant.

I second this, plus their upstairs bakery is great.

There's an ice cream shop called Kwality that we love as well.

Visit Houston's Little India. Search Mahatma Gandhi District. Try Himalaya's it is the area's most prestige restaurant. For delicious sweets, try Raja Sweets.

Thanks much for the many suggestions. The are quite a few I would not have thought of including Afghan cuisine, British pub, etc. I frequently drive past Aga's (at Wilcrest & Hwy 59) and Narin's Bombay (San Felipe and 610). Have not tried them yet. Would appreciate comments.

Perhaps famous is a better work for Himalaya's. def not prestigious!

Also, the food there is very heavily seasoned which you may not like. You can order a mild Tikka Massala but the Massala flavour is overwhelming as is the seasonings on other dishes. May be authentic, but not for everyone.

We prefer Ashiana's at Briar Forest & Dairy Ashford.
