A new Walmart is opening this week near the Creekside Village of the Woodlands.
It is actually on Kuykendahl Road near Augusta Pines, just south of the Woodlands, but it received a lot of protests and concerns from the Woodlands folks. Walmart proposed coming with a unique store with all kinds of innovations and it looks like they are keeping their promises. Below are a few things to be present uniquely in this location:

- Scan and Go: No cashier check-out system
- Drive through order pick-up
- Chobani Cafe (first one in Texas)

The Walmart over by 1960 and Eldridge has drive through order pick-up. It's quite phenomenal, it sure beats the traditional in-store pick-up location where you almost always wait 20 minutes just for an associate to show up.

That neighborhood is very nice. Have a friend who lives there. Surprised they are getting a Walmart there.

I love Walmart Grocery! No more going aisle by aisle, spending a lot more than what you originally intended! The Walmart Check In app is pretty cool too, since they're notified when you arrive at Walmart and come out without you having to call a number, like with Kroger Clicklist.

Sign of things to come. So automated check out systems are currently experimental. Corporate behemoth like Walmart could easily make this a wide scale project with effects on job displacement.

Machines have infiltrated the back and front end of retail operations.

And with all the idiots demanding $15 for low skill jobs, companies like Walmart will continue to try and phase them out.

Back before my husband decided to switch careers, his first job out of college was as a Walmart store manager. He said they used extensive inventory management systems that were far ahead of similar retail operations at the time, and that was over 20 years ago. Apparently, computerization has long been a major focus of theirs, so I'm not surprised by the actions they've taken.

eventually all hourly minimum paid jobs will be automated. Even McDonald is introducing automated order taking kiosks.

we used to laugh about flipping burgers at the restaurant as a job...unfortunately, that may be the only jobs left literally in fast food until they find a way to replace them with an automated system

Lots of folks in that area were not happy about it. Now that it is up, it is as huge and ugly as expected.
