My college student son landed an intern job in downtown Houston(JP Morgan building)from end of May through mid August. We are from a small town in Ohio and have no idea where he should look for a place. An extended stay at a hotel or an apartment? Someplace safe and easy to get into the city(either driving or public transporation). Any ideas would help!!

willing to spend 1000-1500 a month, would be great if less but would rather have a safe and easy place to get to the city

I'd suggest looking on AirBNB first :-). My wife and I stayed at an Extended Stay hotel when we first moved here (they do it by the week or month), but their rates weren't really that spectacular...but then again, not highway robbery either. Also, is your son more of an extrovert or introvert? I bring this up since with Airbnb you often share an apt or house with someone (separate rooms though), so if he would prefer just to be left alone, a hotel might be better. However, if he is more outgoing, then AirBNB can be a great way to have "temporary roommates", if you will.

But, either way, I hope he has fun in Houston!

There are several extended stay places in the vicinity of the Texas Medical Center. That's only about 4 miles south of downtown.

I personally would recommend a small apartment or loft or an extended stay motel in or near the medical center that offers a 3 month or month by month lease. Your budget would fit that. Traffic is horrendous for those unfamiliar. Once he acclimates and gets to know people and areas he will be fine. Welcome to Houston!
