Well, my husband and I are definitely moving to Houston next month from metro Detroit,MI and we are beyond overjoyed! But we are trying to find a place to live. My husband will be employed at Methodist downtown (off Fannin) and I have a strong possibility of working at the DeBakey VA Heart and Vascular Institute (fingers crossed) and we don't want to have to spend a lot of time in traffic. Where would you guys recommend we live?

We also have our daughter who needs to start kindergarten when we get there so we need a good school district. We are looking to pay no more than $900 per month for a 2 or preferably 3 bedroom apt or townhouse. We were interested in Katy but someone told us we would have an hour and a half commute time? Is this true? Is it better to stay in the "Inner Loop"? Is there another city closer?

Also could anyone tell me do you have all-day kindergarten in any of your school districts? We are also concerned about finding good after school latch-key as my mother in law has decided not to move with us for a while. Are there any places that take children on days where there are half days or school is closed?

Thank you for any help any of you are able to offer.

Katy is definitely not a good idea. Look along the 288 corridor near Pearland.

Sugar Land to medical Center is closer and if you Carpool it like I do, it is 25 minutes.
Plus they are going to have a Trek Bus that will take you from the heart of Sugar Land to the medical center starting soon, and most the hospitals will pay for it.

apartments:
Broadstone New Territory I -800-1000+
Gables Austin Colony about 915+ for a 2/2
both zoned to good schools
