If you live in Katy, you should already be on the road.

I heard a rumor that people in Katy and The Woodlands have already turned on each other and have resorted to cannibalism.

So far Fort Bend county isn't even on Tropical storm warning unlike Harris, Galveston, Chambers & Liberty but that might change...

Sounds like it will be rain and street flooding.

Google "Tropical Storm Allison Houston" for a real tropical storm.

Katy evacuating's an old joke.

"There's a joke over on our friend SciGuy's blog about people needing to evacuate from Katy. It was born out of people from that area asking for evacuation advice in the comment section. Even people from College Station asked the question. The reality is, anyone who lives north of the Beltway or west of it and north of I-10 probably should stay put. Wind is scary and, yes, storms can generate tornadoes as well, but when you live more than 100 miles from the coast, your chances of facing the worst storm winds and rain are significantly decreased. I'm not saying it won't possibly be scary, but, unless you are planning a vacation in Colorado at the same time, you're probably fine where you are."

Yes, the evacuation commentary is in jest, but it does bring up a real issue. There are people in the metro area who often should (or even must) evacuate, but have a very difficult time if the Interstates are clogged full of people fleeing from Katy, let alone a more outlying area. I live in Galveston County on the water, and have been quietly preparing for the storm season for months.

There's a difference between being pragmatic and prepared, and becoming something of an alarmist (which is easy to do if you watch the local news).
