Good evening!

My fiance and I are planning on moving to the houston area in the next month or two and are seeking information/tips about where to live. We are both from the west coast, but have been living in St. Louis, MO for the last two years. He just started flying for the airlines and will be based out of IAH (George Bush Intercontinental) here pretty soon. We'd like to live within 30 min or so of the airport. I am a dental hygienist so I'm hoping I can find a place to work close to where we end up living. We'd like to live in an active community. We enjoy being outdoors--especially on the water. I am 25 and he is 28 and we don't have children and don't plan on having any for several years yet. Any and all information would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Kind of tough situation as your young and would probably like the younger scene and younger scene+water= Seabrook/Kemah but that is about an hour or more from IAH. On the north side, I would suggest Kingwood and getting a place near Lake Houston or the San Jacinto River. Kingwood is very nice but more family oriented though, so you see the dilemma. Alternatively, you could live in midtown and be 1/2 hr to the airport and about 40 minutes from the water (Clear Lake).

If you like the water and enjoy coastal living...even though it is a drive..Bayou Vista, Tiki Island or Omega Bay are great communities. My neighbor drives to IAH every day and doesn't mind the drive at all. When you get home to one of these communities you feel like you are on vacation all the time. Clear Lake, Seabrook, League City,Lake Houston or Kemah would probably be ideal based on what you are looking for. Keep in mind the drive time is going to be at least an hour or more.

For outdoor life, but with less water immediately nearby, try the Woodlands. The commute to IAH would be 30-40 mins and you would be 10-20 mins from Lake Conroe and 1 hour from Lake Livingston. As a dental hygenist, you won't have any problems in the Woodlands either.

Since you are DINKs, then you might also look at the Heights.

There is a great new water front village that seems to be catering to the younger crowd in Kingwood. It's called Kings Harbor: Kings Harbor Waterfront Village
This new community has lots of shops and restaurants plus the coolest looking Brownstones. Check it out! They are also doing some cool looking townhomes. The location would be great for both of you. ~K~
