Family of 4 (two teens)
We would be looking at a combines salary of about $ 225 to 250,000
Would this be enough to live on comfortably there?

You'd be making about 5x the median household income. I think you'll survive.

You could afford to live in the loop on that salary.

I am a fat cat. BUT I am on a diet and exercising. So is my old lady.

We are non materialists so junk/clutter is a turnoff, in fact we would move with only the essentials and a few books BUT we want decent schools, community college for the older one until he can transfer into a university and Safety.

What kind of outdoor activities do you enjoy. Do you prefer Salt Water, over fresh water, hunting hiking ?

I do salt water fishing here in florida but i like both. I like hunting but do not hunt here due to lack of space. I do not have a boat either.
I enjoy outdoor walks and hiking but only when it is cool. I like cities like new york, dc burlington where people are out and mingling when the weather is good. We have few spots like that in Tampa due to the oppressive heat.

One advantage of Houston over Tampa is the size and thus the number of job choices. If one or both of these jobs just did not pan out to expectations after a year or so, then a city of Houstons size would have more offerings since there are more big companies there.

Oh and arts....galleries, symphony, theatet etc is a must. Houston seems to have that.
