I remember shortly before I left 1987 ish there was something that happened to the local economy. I was in 10th grade in high school and it was such a great place to grow up. I never came back and now I'm in my 40's. My memories were always some of my happiest. I recently saw a documentary that showcased Alief and it was just such a shock. The crime. Drugs. Gangs. Just thought it would be interesting to some that it used to be a place where very fortunate kids grew up, went to college, rode their bikes until dark, took limos to school dances in 8th grade, wore Espirit, Guess, James Avery rings, Pepsi and Coke clothes (in the 1980's lol)

There used to be a teen dance place, skating rink... don't know if they are all gone, but it was a great place to live.

Default Ahh yes...

I remember it well also.... since you've been gone, the 'Preppies' have been replaced by MS13, Crips, Bloods and Triage. Let me know if I've left any group out.

Well I left over 25 years ago when it was still very nice. Elsik and Hastings were some of the best schools in the country. Now they are rated a 3 out of 10 on greatschools.com Wow.

That was it! It was on Dairy Ashford.

I remember my freshman year walking in Elsik (North) and it was like a mall.. so huge. It may or may not be a big deal today depending on where your kids go to school, but I remember Elsik had a salad bar with every veggie possibly available and you paid for it by the ounce. The football field and indoor pool was state of the art. We were all so proud of the school. Don't know how people feel about it now, but it used to be amazing.

Learning what has happened has proven to me that no place can be safe from what the future can hold for a town.

Same thing that happend in Sharpstown, Fondren, Gulfton. Too many damn apartments. Developers get greedy and over build because of the oil boom(sound familiar?) and then supply and demand kicks in, you have way more apartments than people, so the apartments start lowering their rates and standards and start renting to anybody and everybody and then the ghetto/hood baby mama's start moving in with all their bad ass kids.

hahaha -- yes now I remember exactly where it was. I had a friend that lived on Tanager St. right around the corner. Geesh, just did a google street view of her street. It's not as nice as it used to be. I remember her dad was so state of the art lol... he had the first microwave I ever saw and a VHS recorder. I was in awww like he was from NASA or something, but he wasn't.

That was back when MTV played music.
